Transmission is a digital-dance work developed in 2012 during my time as
Imaginate Dance Artist in Residence. It was presented at the National
Museum of Scotland with Imaginate Festival’s Fresh Tracks Europe
Programme and at Edinburgh Mela.
Each performer wears a Nintendo Wii controller, individually programmed
to compose sound through movement. Using playful choreography, and
exploring the theme of machine vs human, the dancers simultaneously
sculpt the sonic environment in real time whilst exploring the notion
of ‘who is controlling who?’
Transmission presents an accompanying workshop in which the
viewer is invited to participate… By touching the dancers’ bodies,
or wearing the Wii controllers audience members can animate the
installation, bringing movement ideas to life and simultaneously
creating a unique musical score.
Early Research and Development to explore connections between
sound and motion using interactive technology was a collaboration
with Jung In Jung, Pippa Murphy, and Yann Seznec.
